Weekly Kindle Book Roundups
Every week we curate the best-rated free Kindle books across every genre, with editorial commentary and real reader reviews.

Romance
Typewriter Pen Pals, Widowed Dads, and a 2,000-Year-Old Vampire: This Week's Free Romance
This week's free list is basically a study in men who need to be fixed by the right woman. We've got a movie star hiding behind a typewriter, two widowed fathers, a cold earl, and more than one hero who insists he's no good for her. Sweet and spicy are both on the table, so read the blurbs before you hit download.

Fantasy
Oaths, Dark Goddesses, and Ghosts Caught with Coffee: This Week's Free Fantasy
A lot of this week's picks are about characters stuck with a bond they never really chose. Kagen has his oath, Eli owes a goddess, and the vampire heroine in Fated in Secrets got turned by a king. Then there's a ghost hunter who runs on coffee and a dragon book you can read to a seven-year-old, so the list has some range.

Science Fiction
Frozen Soldiers, Dead Ships, and One Very Unlucky Frog
This week's free list is full of things that got left behind and then dug back up. A soldier is pulled out of an arctic lake, an alien world is picked over by archaeologists, and a salvage crew finds a ship that should be empty. Add a 1920s dystopia and a witch with a frog for a fiancé, and it's a pretty odd mix.

Thrillers & Suspense
Retired Assassins, Sand Dune Corpses, and a Psychic Salon Owner: This Week's Free Thrillers
This week's free list is full of people who can't leave the past alone. There's an ex-assassin who gets dragged back in, an FBI agent chasing abductions that echo her own childhood, and a Montana deputy chasing CIA blood money. Then the cozy corner shows up with a salon owner who smells memories, and a food blogger who trips over a body.

Mystery, Detective & Sleuth
Accused Newcomers, Ex-Cons and a Butterfly Net: Six Free Mysteries for Late October
A lot of this week's picks start with someone landing in the wrong place at the wrong time. A witch in a new town, a food truck owner on a date gone bad, a couple who just wanted antique shops. If you like your sleuths accidental and your mysteries on the lighter side, you're well covered, with a couple of darker detours mixed in.

Non-Fiction
Reader Magnets, Mind Visualization and Finishing What You Start: This Week's Free Non-Fiction
This week's free list leans hard on self-improvement. Visualize it, think positively about it, or finally follow through on it. There's also a business book for authors, a very personal memoir and a cookbook full of Israeli sweets, so the shelf is more mixed than it first looks.

Young Adult
Grieving Teens, Ghost Dogs, and a Locked Gate Into the Forest: This Week's Free YA
Loss runs through almost every pick this week. There's a dead father, a missing father, and a girl packed off to a house she hates. Add some Halloween retellings and a dragon story about village outcasts, and it's a good lineup for a moody October reading binge.

Horror
Dead Cars, Forty-Foot Predators, and a Bargain You Can't Undo
This week's free horror is mostly about what happens when the safety net disappears. The power goes out, the vehicles die, the lab loses containment, and people are left with their wits and each other. Even the quieter picks are really about the price of wanting something badly.

Historical Fiction
Survivors and Escapees: Free Historical Fiction from Cannae to the Titanic
This week's batch is full of people trying to outrun something, whether it's grief, slavery, a war that won't end, or the memory of a battlefield where they maybe should have died. The settings jump from Tang Dynasty China to the Hayden Expedition to the Caribbean of the 1650s. Plenty to grab here, and one of them sold me on a premise I'd normally roll my eyes at.

Action & Adventure
Famine Ships, Silk Road Tales and a Missing Girl in Balmain: A Quieter Kind of Adventure
Fair warning, nobody is dangling off a helicopter in this week's free picks. What we do have is a lot of people surviving things: a famine crossing, a courtroom fight, grief, a pandemic. If your idea of adventure includes a long hard road of the emotional kind, this list has you covered.

Religion & Spirituality
Secret Saints, Snowbound Angels, and a Gold Watch on a Fencepost
This week's Religion & Spirituality freebies lean hard into faith-flavored fiction, with a Christmas-heavy streak of small towns, angels, and people who have lost their belief in something. There's also a pair of mysteries sneaking in for readers who like their devotion with a little danger. Grab your coffee, because I think most of these are better than their covers suggest.

Children's Books
Angels, Angry Turkeys, and a Kid Who Crafts His Way Out of a Bad Move
This week's free Children's Books shelf is a weird mix. There are picture books about misunderstood sticks and striking turkeys, a couple of middle grade adventures about kids starting over, and two titles that are really YA and adult territory, so check ages before you hand anything to a kid. The common thread is characters who feel outmatched and find some unlikely backup.
